About Team 1058 — The PVC Pirates

Londonderry High School Robotics • FIRST Robotics Competition

Londonderry High School Robotics competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) as part of the New England District. Founded in 2003, the team was originally called the Londonderry Dragoons. The name was quickly changed to the PVC Pirates after our first-year robot resembled a pirate ship and was constructed primarily out of PVC piping.

Our team culture is built on Gracious Professionalism, relentless curiosity, and hands-on learning. We fabricate our robots almost entirely in-house — from 3D CAD modeling and CNC machining to welding, precision wiring, autonomous vision tracking, and match scouting analytics. Students work alongside dedicated industry mentors, gaining real-world engineering experience in a supportive, family-like environment.

A former Walgreens building generously donated for robotics use. We share this full-scale practice space with partner teams from Salem and Windham, NH for driver practice, autonomous calibration, and match simulations.

Our specialized offsite shop facility equipped for heavy manufacturing, precision machining, CNC work, welding, and robot mechanical assembly.

Mechanical & CAD Design

Responsible for 3D solid modeling (CAD), rapid mechanism prototyping, CNC milling, lathe turning, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and full robot assembly.

Electrical & Pneumatics

Designs 12V power distribution, CAN bus communication networks, sensor integration, motor controllers, pneumatics plumbing, and robust harness wiring.

Software & Autonomous Vision

Programs real-time robot control loops, autonomous path generation, AprilTag/vision tracking algorithms, and driver station interfaces.

Strategy & Scouting

Collects match performance data, analyzes opponent capabilities, coordinates drive team tactics, and develops alliance selection pick lists.

Business, Media & Outreach

Manages team branding, sponsor relations, grant applications, social media channels, event logistics, photography, and community outreach efforts.

Community Outreach & Mentorship

Team 1058 is committed to expanding STEM education throughout our local community:

Londonderry Middle School FLL Mentoring: Team 1058 students and mentors actively coach and mentor FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams at Londonderry Middle School, inspiring future engineers before they enter high school.
Annual FLL Qualifying Tournament: We host and operate the official Londonderry FIRST LEGO League Qualifying Tournament each season at Londonderry High School, providing a fun and competitive platform for local teams.
